Phobia is a type of anxiety disorder that may be a result of panic, or anxiety that would have been triggered as a result of a fear factor. When people have an extreme level of fear of something and it would be a die situation for that person then one may need a therapist and counselor. It can be a disturbing situation because this fear leads to hurdles daily performance of the individual.

We can say that when fears are irrational, then it is phobias. If someone wants to come out of overcoming the fear then he should develop hope and come for therapy. Common fears and phobias are

  • phobia of closed-in places
  • phobia of heights
  • phobia from deep water
  • fear of dogs 
  • fear of germs
  • fear of injection
  • Symptoms of phobias-
  • Breath shortening
  • accelerated heart rate
  • shaking
  • feeling of chocking
  • sweating
  • nausea
  • feeling groggy
  • detached from yourself
  • fear of dying
  • hot or cold flashes
  • fainting                                                                                                                                                                        

Normal fears in children

0-2 years - loud noises, strangers, separation parents

3-6 years - imaginary things such as ghosts, monsters, the dark, sleeping alone, and strange noises.

7-16 years - More realistic fears such as injury, illness, school performance, death, and natural disasters.

Types of Phobias

- Specific Phobia  - It can be defined as phobias that cover a specific stimulus or triggering pattern such as spiders, airplanes, or elevators where a person can experience a severe state of panic or irrational behavior as a result. They can have a persistent and irrational fear of objects, person places, or things and this can greatly interfere with their day-to-day lives.

-Social Phobia - It can be classified as a social anxiety disorder and can be defined as general anxiety and discomfort from exposure to people, groups, and social situations. usually, this type of phobic person avoids going to the public gathering and keeps away from the social group.

- Agoraphobia - The fear of open space is known as Agoraphobia and also known as the fear of public places that brings anxiety, also appears in the form of attack. we can say that It can be a part of social phobia and an attack can occur at any time.
