The Unsung Heroines

Many a times, one must have heard, people use examples of famous personalities, to make one understand about something specific. Usually children are motivated by being talked about people with big achievements, for them to understand and make decisions. But, how many of us speak about big things done by our own people, especially females of family. If we dig into our own family history, we will surely have more than 1 female, who would have her own achievements and contribution in the family welfare, maybe directly or indirectly. Our grandmothers, great grandmothers had strong will power and dedication, which never led them to tire and stop working. They used to rise from as early as 4.00 AM, and retire for day only after 11.00 PM. No gadgets or equipments were invented then, still they maintained their homes and cooked delicious food. They had no running taps, they walked miles for water, also carried untidy clothes to wash. Most surprising thing was, they were married off at the age of 12 or 13. No doctors, still they survived complicated deliveries, and no electricity, still they worked early mornings and late nights in lanterns. Weddings or deaths, any occasion, they had no helps of outsiders, everything was taken care by them. Traditional dishes, were hand cooked and bridal dresses, were hand stitched. They used to guard their homes and children with sickle in hands, whenever their male family members migrated for days for earning to different places. Though they were mostly home makers, they had knowledge and smartness to raise happy family and children with confidence. | know there are still such ladies found in native villages, who are living their lives with simplicity, but do we give their examples or talk about them proudly to our children? | doubt. Very rarely it happens. And the question is why? Why it happens like this? Because, theses heroines never were and are bothered to be known or recognised, for they believe that what they have done and are doing is their duties and responsibilities towards their family and society. They have nothing done big, they have just followed their family system and want it to be carried forward as like any other legacy. There are still few families in city, who are blessed to have ladies, who had once lived their lives with their grandparents, but are hardly heard; because now life has become too busy, either in earning or enjoying what is earned. And when people have to talk on inspiration and motivation, they look outside for examples living their own family members. Let's start searching within us, our Unsung Heroines and give our children live examples.
